anyone know KTMs reaction?
Seeing as they wouldn't give them bikes, does anyone know if they regreted not giving them bikes or anything? Just interested. Thanks.

Whatever it is, no KTM for me!
GO BMW...!!!
or Honda... or Yamaha...
they were probably kicking themselves.
firstly I KNOW the sales on BMW bikes have gone through the roof since long way round and it helped BMW's bike reputation. before that they were always seen that if you had a beemer you wern't a "true" biker and they wern't a "proper" bike comany (this is from reading meany a bike mag, biker porn as I think Ewan refurs to it in the book"
now they're considered an AMAZING Bike company, not many people would argue that you didn't have a proper bike if you said it could easily go round the world
I bet someone was fired for that disaster. then again if they did get KTMs I bet they would have had a lot more problems with the bikes than with the beasty beemers.
Solving water entering the engine on site? Those are some tough bikes.

I love Charley's rant when they were told they weren't getting the KTM's because some KTM deskjockey thought they would fail! Charley could be accused of having a bit of tantrum, but in all honesty how can you blame him when they've only got a few weeks left before the off and everyone thought KTM bikes were up for the job of travelling the world off-road!
BMW must have been laughing all the way to the bank when KTM pulled the plug. BMW clearly had a great deal more confidence in their bikes than KTM. And with the exception of a couple of breakdowns with broken frames along the way (not surprising given the extremely harsh terrain), the Beemers shone through.
So well done BMW for taking the gamble and winning.
As for KTM - must try harder in the PR stakes.
And I looked & I beheld a pale horse & the name that sat on him was Death & Hell followed with him.
It's sadly another example of austrian mentality...always so short sighted and negative!
Trust me i know what i'm talking about, i live in that country.
I feel no pity for them, none, zero!
The really screwed themselves over!
shareTo bad too, i think the KTM would have been much more suited for the ride across russia/mongolia.
LETS BE CIVIL AND LEAVE POSITIVE COMMENTS
In what way? I'm looking at all their bikes, and not one (IMO) could handle the stresses of carrying the enormous load of gear they had to carry. KTM looks like they make a great motorcycle that is geared towards RACING, well, this trip wasn't about racing, it was about going the distance and carrying a lot of stuff. If you see a bike that could handle carrying a few hundred lbs in gear, please, post it.
shareWell then maybe KTM thought they would fail BECAUSE of their bikes but chose to leave that part out.
shareWould like to know this to. Every time I watch the show I wonder the same thing. At one point, think its the last episode, Charley and Evan discusses whether the KTM would even make it.
...so my guess is that KTM where afraid of bad PR cus their bike wasn't up to the challenge AND its butt ugly on top of that!
bmw all the way,ill never drive anything other than that.pure class
