Was Lily using a Japanese Nambu 8mm pistol?

Throughout the movie I assumed Lily was using a German 9mm parabellum Luger semi-automatic pistol. But in the alleyway where Brother Silus picks up and looks at Lily's pistol close-up, it is not a Luger. It looks like an imperial Japanese World War II Nambu 8mm commissioned officer's semi-automatic pistol.

Gun historians remember that the Luger form was so popular that other contemporary pistol designers incorporated a similar architecture in their designs. The Japanese Nambu was one of these.

I immediately recognized the Japanese Nambu pistol by its big round cocking knob on the rear of the pistol. The German Luger did not have this. You had to grip the Luger's cocking toggle on the sides and pull backwards and upwards at the same time.

Interesting movie though. It reminds me of the stylistic RICHARD III (1997) that takes place in an alternate 1930s earth. This movie takes place in an alternate New Zealand that incorporates the dark, dank slum environment and society of late 19th century Victorian England along with the stylistic alternate 1930s parallel earth England from RICHARD III (1997), and some technology from late 1940s our earth.

Oddly enough, I thought it was a Luger too, then realised my mistake :) so yes, I think you're right.

You are right. It is an 8mm Nambu. I would like to have seen it fire. I spent the first half of the movie trying to figure out what it was and then the second half of the movie wishing it was mine.
