Ewan McGregor stands by The Island.

DETAILS: Have you ever done a film just for the money?
Ewan McGregor: There have been films I've done where I've been very happy to have reached my last day on set, but not many. And I've never started a film with anything other than enthusiasm.

DETAILS: Well, you're an optimist. In fact, you thought you could make a great movie with Michael Bay.
Ewan McGregor: I did make a good movie with Michael Bay! The Island got hammered by reviewers because it was his turn to get hammered. We made his best movie, don't you think?

DETAILS: You said "good," not "great." That sounds like faint praise.
Ewan McGregor: Well, there are no great movies made anymore. [Lawrence of Arabia director] David Lean's not with us.

Calling disagreement hate is childish.

Interviewer seems like such an ass.

DETAILS: Star Wars fans are notoriously intense. Have you had positive experiences with them?

Ewan McGregor: I don't have any experience with them. I've never been to one of the conventions. The people I meet are the *beep* who want me to sign Star Wars photos so they can sell them on the Internet or the people at premieres who are crushing children against barriers to get me to sign their *beep* picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi. They're not fans—they're parasitical lowlifes and *beep* wankers

Me: LOL

I think it's cool that Ewan wasn't one of those actors that called out a movie they did years ago and talk smack about it. I think The Island seemed like a great idea on paper, I think if someone else had directed it at the time, it would of had great potential.

He has class. And he likely said "good" instead of "great" for the same reason - calling something you worked on "great" smacks too much of hubris, but judging it to at least be good in a bad/good way is very fair.
