Harlan was schizo?

That's the conclusion I came too, at least mildly schizophreniac.

reply

He was living in his own fantasy world.

and that is one of the symptoms, delusions.

reply

I don't know.

I always thought schizo was about having two or more personalities. Harlan only had one, but he just changed it( how he wanted to be, how he wanted the world to be). It isn't clear if he actually believes it himself ( being Harlan) or he just wanted other to believe it.

I wouldn't say schizo because that condition is far more complex than Harlan's behaviour and like alot of you have said he doesn't show any case of a split personality. I this he has quite increased paranoia but my friend who was with me when I watched it said she thought he might have a slight case of bipolar disorder which I don't agree with entirely because his behaviour isn't that extreme but I do see some similarites.

I think really his personality could be seen as a mixture of alot of things.

*I saw in your eyes that you hate the world, I hate it too...*

Hi Panterken - schizophrenia does not involve shifts in personality. Schizophrenia is commonly confused with dissociative identity disorder (formerly known as multiple personality disorder). Schizophrenia involves hallucinations and delusions. Indeed, Harlan only did exhibit one personality but he was clearly psychopathic.

and from what I read schizophreniacs have trouble distinguishing reality. The way he thought the movie that was being filmed in the town was real. A good movie about schizophrenia is Clean, Shaven.

Shizophrenia does not involve multiple personalities, it is when the person suffers from delusions and hallucinations of outside "beings," whereas multiple personality disorder is when someone can have 2 or more personalities. I believe the largest on record was a woman with 99 personalities.
