I thought the same thing myself.I guess because of their tears it seems like they still liked him. But it could have been tears of confusion. I'm sure they were hurt by his actions but they grew to love and so when things went wrong they were confused. Hope I helped :).
When Chuck Norris jumps into the water he doesn't get wet, the water gets Chuck Norrised.
From their actions Lonnie still loved Harland for listening to him and protecting him. His father failed to do so . . . mostly because he was a) taking care of girlfriend at the beginning or b) taking care of Tobe. By this time he knows what has transpired and is upset, but Harland's end made him weep.
From Tobe's point of view, she loved this guy who turns out to be a nut job. Now she is trying to take care of things, as he has no friends or family to turn to, not even Joe.
Wade does not show any remorse, hence he stays in the truck.

True, but I did take it as a hopeful sign that he will be a better, more understanding father now. Otherwise, he wouldn't have even allowed it by driving them out there.
i know i thought that was weird. he shot her and pretended it was her dad. i would not have shed a tear he died if i were them but they both did love him.
I'm thinking she realised he shot her without thinking properly. It wasn't out of spite, you could see he clearly loved her and liked the kid very much, and so I thikn by the end they both realised he was just a schizo/slightly unhinged character, but with a good heart.
