It was long, but needed more

I was intrigued by the gumption versus meek theme in the movie. You have the two kids who are polar opposites in that respect. But Harlan first seems meek then eventually we see him as aggresive. I wish this movie had more backstory on Harlan so we could see more of that true self we see at the end. His struggle is fascinating even if the audience is not on his side anymore by the final act.

It's more fun to supply your own backstory when it's left open like this. The crew on A History Of Violence decided that Joey's brother and associates were all gay! It hadn't occurred to me, or Cronenberg.

Martin's aggressions seemed subtle yet present, starting with the shop rag on the floor.
