The Valley is...

I just watched it and have had a sneak peek through the stuff written here on the bored...and i only do that with movies that make me think...

I appreciate what everyone is saying about this movie...and i mean everyone because it does have the ability to divide people...but that is what a good movie should do. I think it is a great movie for the following reasons.

1. It is filmed in a way that makes people appreciate every element of it...the acting...the directing...the music...the heat...the locations...the love...the need...

2. It shows the main problem (through the story and the way it is filmed) that we as human beings all face...the reconciliation between the past (Ed Norton's character) and the present (eveerything else)...but in a metaphorical (as well as a film history) sense. It does this not only in a physical embodiment of the history of american culture but in filmic culture....Some examples...Old west versus 2005 west/Old school male view (Harlan/Wade) versus new feminine freedom(Tobe)...References to movies(Taxi Driver, Old westerns, etc etc...I could go on...)

3. It shows that people are different and we should not choose to discard others views just because we do not agree/understand/comprehend.

4. It shows that everyone needs a hero/mentor/guide of some kind to help us through life/experience/being. (Lonnie)

It is quite slow...and i understand that some people will not have the MTV, instant gratification, mentality to sit and watch for a second...but there is so much good *beep* in the film that you should.

Added to that the film is beautifully shot and it has a great soundtrack and the actors/acting is second to none.

So watch it if you want to be made to think about films and life and why we put a DVD in our players in the first place. Or don't...

...I hear there are some good (________fill the blank)'s coming out soon.

I'd just add to always listen to any commentaries on the DVD's AFTER seeing the feature. Most of this stuff is very personal to it's creators, and probably won't make much sense at first viewing.
