I'm sorry but Jennifer Aniston ruins the movie. She just isn't believable. She isn't sexy in this film. Melissa George is so much more sexier than Jennifer, in this film. Although, I know cheating isn't about looks. I can't get pass that it's Jennifer Aniston like I did in The Good Girl and some of her other films. To me, this was her worst performance by far. She should stick to comedy.
I actually think she did well in this role. A lot of it was because she really ain't all that attractive - she was able to fool the audience (not really, but still) for longer by making them believe she was this sweet innocent little cutie rather than an incredibly gorgeous supermodel. Let's face it, even Charlie-boy would have been asking himself why such a supermodel would be so unashamedly interested in his middle-aged a$$.
Of course the problem here is that I find Jennifer Aniston rather ugly, as opposed to simply not being attracted to her. She reminds me of Sarah Jessica Parker in that sense, having an elongated horse face. It's off-putting. I would have preferred they put someone a little more comely in the role. Could be someone with more "homely" looks - but yeah not Jennifer Aniston-looking.
But with that (personal) qualification out of the way, I think she did well with the character. And I'm no Jen fan.
i agree that jennifer aniston did really well in the role but i think you are looking at the concept of her been cast wrongly, aniston is considered very atteactive in hollywood and constantly tops the hottest women lists.Yes she is'nt cindy crawford but how many women[even the alisters] are? Alot of people would still consider her very hot and sexy though. She got the role to add to the twist as alot of people are so used to her golden girl image they were shocked to see she was evil.Besides that she can carry the role of the femme fatale well. And despite what people say here, the intention was for her to be playing the sexy women.
I agree with the OP. I read this book before I saw the movie, and honestly I think casting Aniston (and to a lesser extent, Xzibit) was a mistake.
Aniston just didn't embody the character to me. This opinion might be prejudiced since I read the book and had preconceived ideas, but I also thought Clive Owen did a GREAT job.
It's tough for me to touch the OPs point regarding her attractiveness (major plot pt.) because beauty is such a subjective thing. Personally, I didn't buy it, but thats not even my main issue with her--she just felt..bland. With a few key changes, maybe this film could have been as great as The fugitive. It ended up being a nice middle of the road thriller instead.
I agree with what you've said, mel-o, but not really your reasons for it. I thought Jennifer Aniston was quite believable in the first half of the movie, and accepted that Charles would want to take solace in her company from his grind of a marriage - though, to be honest, that's more due to Melissa George's performance than to Aniston's. I haven't read the book, and knew nothing about the story ahead of time, so I took it completely as it ame.
Where I wanted more from her performance than we got was when she was finally caught out - but we got nothing. Just the same clenched-jawed, slightly robotic delivery of lines, when the scene was crying out for her to show her true colours, be it a psychopath or an ice-queen. (Sorry to talk clichés, but you'll know what I mean.) It needed some sort of change of gear in her persona, and without it, the scene immediately deflated - so much so, that the tension completely dissipated and I started noticing how incredibly asymmetrical Jennifer Aniston's jaw is. Not what I should have been thinking about right then, I'm sure you'll agree.
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
mmm no i thought aniston's last scene was powerful,it showed she had brains. She knew they were caught and it was best to hand back the cash, the boyfriend on the other hand was an idiot,he never used his head at all.He should have admitted defeat and give the money back to Charles. The scene also is ambigious as it leaves an air of mystery to her character and alot some peple felt sorry for her
well yeah i liked last scene of her, they did'nt need her to turn into the ice queen or the evil psycho,we already knew she was no angel, well i liked it...
I'm not sure Jennifer Aniston ruins the film, but her being in it certainly put me off watching it for several years. It was only when I read up what the story was about that I realised it was my kind of film - a thriller/mystery. If they had cast someone else as the female love interest (such as Melissa George?), I would never have waited so many years to see this film.
Even if Hollywood loves Jennifer, they must also know she can't act for $h1t.
