who thinks he told his wife the truth at the end (spoilers)

as we know that part was never revealed so what do you think? I personally don't think he did because he had already become a master liar. He was able to keep his cool when that detective church guy kept pressing him. I would've had fear written all over me. He got the money and all he had to tell his wife was the mugger guy got a hold of his wallet and blackmailed him and threatened the life of his family. I mean, that IS what happened. I think he had a clean break from ever having to mention his affair. What do you all think?

Yes, he told his wife because after admitting he lost the money, he added "I'll tell you everything ... and it's not just about the money." No point in that line being delivered if not to tell the audience he's going to completely level with his wife.

On the other hand, I don't see the point of it. After all, the audience doesn't get to see a reaction from the wife and it doesn't appear to affect the movie in any way later.

He had to tell his wife. Why should he give in to a blackmail from just a thief. For blackmail you must have done something to be blackmailed.

I think he told his wife he was about to sleep with another woman when they were robbed. Later on when he found out that other woman was part of the scam he could have told her that fact as well.

Well not necessarily, because if he got his wallet, he could threaten the life of his family and threaten to do something horrible to them if he went to the police. He did know where they lived after all.

When he said "I'll tell you everything, and it's not just about the money." He had not gotten it back yet or knew that he would ever see it again at the time. So at that time, he may have felt he had to come clean but he got the $$$$, so why need to say anything?

in the end, charles tells deanna what happened; the reason it doesn't appear that their marriage has been affected by it all is because deanna had earlier told charles that she'd had an actual affair with the principal of the school where she teaches (he then tells her, "it doesn't matter...because i love you").

how do i know all of this?
because i have the dvd, and have watched the deleted scenes included in the "special features".
this film is based on a novel, so apparently (maybe) the director ultimately decided it wasn't that important that we know for sure whether or not charles confesses to deanna in the end (since there's no scene in the theatrical release where those circumstances occur).
