Be honest, did you see the twist coming?
There are 2 types of people who watched this movie.
1. Everyone who did not see the twist coming.
2. Liars.
I don’t believe in ghosts but I’d pee myself if I saw one

****SPOILERS AHEAD******
First of all i think you're completely wrong:
If by the twist you mean the fact he was getting conned > YES I saw it coming 20 mins in the film. Probably cause I watched matchstick men and Unusual Suspects a month before Derailed.
But i agree with you:
If by twist you mean the fact that Laroche was still alive
When you consider the genre of the movie and that the first hour of the movie was just about the lead and jennifer aniston it's a very simple case of 2 + 2 = obvious. There'd be no point focusing half of the movie on a relationship that didn't contribute heavily to the movies ending, the most obvious option being she was in on it.
I'm willing to bet you're the type who doesn't pick up on background music either, like the DUN DUN DAAAAAAH music starts just before something bad happens and such in movies and tv.
Not the greatest of plot twists of alltime. Don't think there were too many who didnt see that coming but a good film none the less.
sharei dont know what everyones problem is with this movie i thought it was very good....like u said i never saw the twist coming and i very much enjoyed this movie.
it just goes to show that all the good movies are off the radar.
i think that Jennifer Aniston went out and showed people that she can act with this movie....im tired of actors taking safe movies, i really respect her for taking a risk.
I saw the movie and I did not see the twist coming until she kissed LaRoche at his car. I did wonder when Charles went to her job and found out she was a temp but still some people might tell guys they are with that their job is something more important than it actually is. And with Jennifer Aniston's character not going to the cops, I believed her that her husband could be the kind of guy that would take her child away because some husbands or boyfriends would do that to their child's mother as it does happen. Of course we later find out that it was a huge lie. She was really good because it shows the American people that she can in drama and not just in comedies.
shareI didn't see the twist coming til later on and I know many other people that would say the same. I don't know why people think it was so obvious. I mean it looked like she had nothing to do with it until it got a little further in the film.
share*So many spoilers :P*
"There'd be no point focusing half of the movie on a relationship that didn't contribute heavily to the movies ending, the most obvious option being she was in on it."
Um... There'd be plenty point to focusing on it. Character development. One of my favorite parts of the movie was the relationship between Charlie and Lucinda. Not romantically but just the bond they shared through the experience. I thought that that was hit dead on. It was only enhanced by the plot-twist. I certainly didn't see most of the plot-twists coming. I thought Lucinda was a bit creepy sounding at first but I kinda just attributed it to awkward wording in the script :P
However they did BLATANTLY point out that Lucinda was in on it when you see the freakin keys IN HER DOOR. "They just pushed in" No, actually the camera zoomed in on the keys lmfao. If they had made that more subtle the plot twist would've been undetectable for me :)
If you're going to push through a door with someone you'd wait for them to put the key in, then grab them. It's pretty hard to "push through" a locked door after all. In the ensuing confusion the key could get left in the door in such a scenario. Leaving the key in the door would give the impression that such a scenario had happened. Of course, unless Charles opened the door with the key, we don't know that the key in the door actually was the key that unlocks it if you want to get picky about it.
shareOk, so, this is an old post, but I am reading how smart everyone on this thread and I am pretty sure everyone in America (which is the real funny thing - not people pretending they saw every twist coming and pretentiously acting like they are intellectually superior and laughs and at anyone who DIDN'T see the twist coming) thinks they are..and I get to you, and you say, they actually zoomed the camera in on the keys...and then you added a "lmfao." But the fact that no, they did not zoom the camera in on the keys (unless you are so damn stupid, you don't know what the word zoom means?), they just cut from a upper-torso shot, to a waist high shot to show the keys were in the door (no zooming involved), really points out that the thing you were lyfao at so much...was wrong...and it makes you look really stupid.
Let me try to paraphrase it for you "Yeah, man, those movie makers are sooo dumb...I saw the twist when I was reading the back of the box at the movie rental place man! And did you SEE how they ZOOOMED in on those keys..MAN ARE THEY STUPID.. HAHAHHA GOD THEY ARE STUPID..I am so much smarter!"
Sound about right? Sound like you? Oh, well, maybe you don't realize thats how you sound to other people...I am sure in your head it sounds like the monologues in the Sherlock Holmes movies with you outthinking everyone twelve steps ahead.
Sorry, I know the truth hurts..and you have my pity. I know pretentious people like you don't like to feel pitied but, its better than hating people.
Good luck.
Sorry, no animals in the discussion hall. You have to dismount your high horse to participate.
Totally realised after she was so adament she wasn't going to tell the cops.. without hesitation at all..
Plus she picked the hotel and made the move on him.. so only a simpleton wouldn't figure it out.
I so did not see it coming and I must have called her every name I could think of !
I saw the twist midway through, when she said she'd had an abortion. Sounded too much like a line.
I did NOT see the twist that came at the end, i.e. that the 'rapist' survived.
Saw it on bootleg when it first came out, and I still saw the twist coming. Even with the crappy quality. Horrible movie.
shareI know I may not agree with a lot of people who thought that Jennifer Aniston was good in this film, but I thought her acting was uneven and I thought she gave away right from the beginning that she was more than just some nice woman paying for his ticket. She had this weird "i'm so mysterious and clever" vibe going from the very beginning, which made me say "she's not on the up and up" ...plus, when he looked her up online - there was no picture and most firms who give you background on their personnel include pictures - so that seemed fishy to me.
I didn't see everyone getting killed, so that took me by surprise, I didn't catch the part where he "borrowed" the $10k from the company so I didn't see the embezzling charge coming (it was nice to see Tom Conti in a movie) but once he went to teach at the prison, I figured something was up.
On the other hand, why LaRoche the rap and never mention Clive being there? Why wouldn't he try to hang him when it happened, did he think he was going to pull something later? I don't know - this was a dissappointing film, and I LOVE Clive Owens.

This is when I thought something might be up as well.
shareI didn't see it coming but I should have.

Yes,I did see the twist coming.
It was just so fishy that LaRoche knew exactly how much money Charles had and when to stop blackmailing. Plus he seemed to never even try to blackmail Lucinda even though she cheated her husband too.
But, I didn't see that LaRoche was still alive and it was Charles' choice to teach in that prison.
I predicted it when she was making those weird sounds in the room. I watched it over a year and a half ago, and I don't remember much of the scene, but she was saying "No, no" or "help me" and it seemed like Jennifer's character was trying to fake so hard but couldn't. I immdeiately thought, man she is conning him.
I didnt see the twist coming and was llike, 'you bitch!' but then one of my mates started saying she had know from the start that she was conning him. I thought the start of this movie was terrible. So boring. It got a lot better towards the end. I dislike Clive Owen's droning voice though.
-Beth McIntyre: [smiling] Um... I had a good day.
[camera shuts off]
lets try this
1. Everyone who did see the twist coming.
2. YOU.
I saw it coming, but I still enjoyed the movie very much.
Maturity. The very staple of the IMDb message boards.
I watched it on television today never heard about it, but was very shocked at the twist, i also think jennifer is gorgeous and plays a superb part in this film i give it a 9/10
shareNo need to be rude. The original poster is not the only one who didn't see the twist coming, & it doesn't make anyone stupid who didn't. Some people do, some don't.
