Did American Dad! Just Get Great Again?

The earlier episodes were mocking the Bush administration fairly consistently. The constant battle between Stan's misguided views and Hayley's over the top outcries were the foundation of the series and created many classic episodes that are still popular today.

When Obama came into office, the show shifted focus so as not to poke fun at him and they rarely included him as part of the episodes. And in the later part of the series, the political views were rarely mentioned at all.

Now that Trump will be in office, did American Dad! just rediscover it's niche?

Yeah but it was awesome.

The earlier episodes? Yes, I agree.

Hence why I was wondering if they will have better material to work with now.

reply

no. you clearly just have low standards given you've stuck around. reading several comments about how good it is I tried a recent episode and it was awful.

family guy changed a fair amount a while ago developing a much slower pace but the jokes are as sharp as ever. american dad appears to have adopted the opposite approach -going the jokes per minute route- with the vast majority of them being unfunny. multi-camera comedy unfunny.

it's an utter shame as I thought that when it was in its prime it was funnier than family guy.

The new episodes were created before Donald was elected though. The point of the post was that now that there is a Republican President, going forward (meaning next season), the show can get back to some of its roots, rather than have Stan try and live and adapt to a Liberal household.

I do have to agree, there was a period of time where "American Dad!" was definitely the strongest of the 3 running MacFarlane comedies on the air.

No it would have been "great" if they could keep up the political humour regardless of whom was in office now it just looks like cheap shots.

One thing is for sure Roger could be dunking his cookie in the tears of all the crybaby Democrats!

That would be hilarious. Although I do not know if they could create that so quickly after the election. The new episodes were written and created months ago, prior to the November election.

If you follow the creator Seth on Twitter he is absolutely disgusted with Donald Trump so don't expect the comedy to be anything that deplorable Trump supporters want to watch.

As a Hollywood left leaning type it's not limited to Trump.

reply

With the hatred that Seth has got for Donald Trump you better believe that they will be making fun of the new President like they did with George W Bush all the time.
