Moved, Touched and Inspired

I work in the film and television industry and I have to tell you I haven't been moved, touched or inspired by a film in a while. If you'll listen - Nanny McPhee has lessons around every corner for both the young and the old. How rare it is to leave the theatre feeling better than when you went in, and maybe, just a little better human being as well. Emma, if you're out there, it's films like THIS that inspire many of us to keep slugging it out in this crazy business. From the heart - I thank you.

I agree. And If i can say so without sounding smug, you have vision.

It's Emma Thompson. I have been noticing her for a while now. Her Movies have, it's hard to describe, but she knows the magic. She has high aspriations for what a movie can be. I love her. Her Sense and Sensibility was masterful.

When I saw the credits for this movie and I saw that she wrote it, I cheered out loud, alone, watching at home.

I think she may be a giant.

But here I am the lone respondant to your thread, months after you posted it. You may never see this. But that does not make me wrong. There is no mistaking the highest standards and aspirations she brings to her movies. And Angela Landsbury! What a sorceress she is to play that role!

And I sit in the night and write this to likley be read by no one. But I don't care. Emma Thompson may be overlooked. But the important thing in my mind is that she is not overlooked by me. I love her.

Well I have not seen the film yet with my children and will do so tonight. I just wanted you to know someone read the post!!! I have been a fan of Emma Thompson for a long time and am excited to finally get a chance to see it after reading the posts!

Yes she is lovely. She 'tweaked' the script for Pride and Prejudice 2005, and insisted on not being paid. There was a thank you to her on the credits. She is so clever , I really admire her.

MikeB941--Thank you for your original, very moving accolade for Nanny McFee. It is destined, I predict, to become a classic of children's film literature.

Thanks! :) I hope you enjoyed it

Do not feel that way. Lots of people have read this post who share your love for this movie and movies similar to it :)
I am just one of them. Wanted to comment because you seem down on yourself.

I agree! Emma Thompson is one of the best screen writers around. I would like to see her take on a Harry Potter script. I know she could keep the magic of the story, all the best parts, everything that's necessary, and keep it under three hours.

I finally watched this movie last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was keen to see this, having read 'Nurse Matilda' many years ago (the book on which the film was based).

It EXCEEDED my expectations!

It was largely faithful to the book, all the acting was superb (including the kids!), it was somewhat crazy (the cake-throwing) and deliciously kitsch (the colours of the costumes/wedding cake, the camp colleagues of Mr. Brown) - but the best thing if all was,it had a heart and soul: Mr. Brown's love for his children, the romance between him and Evangeline, Nanny McPhee's support for the whole family.

By the end I was smiling - definitely a 'feel-good' movie!

I agree with everything said here and want to add that I thought it was hilarious in addition to everything else.

How great was she in this!

reply

Yes, this is the best 'just plain good movie' I've seen in a while. Though it reminded me of Mary Poppins a little, the lessons made it a more important movie to me.

I agree with everyone here.

As I watched the movie, knowing little about it, I kept remarking on the brilliance of the script, and I wondered if Emma Thompson had contributed some of those zinging Nanny lines. Of course, now I know she wrote the whole script. She is Magnificent!! Would love to see her take on a Harry Potter script!

I agree, this movie is magic.
