Sunday afternoon off...

Any idea why Nanny had to take Sunday afternoons off? Did she know the kids would need her the very next Sunday, and was trying to teach them a lesson, or is there something else?

It was just common for victorian servants to get sunday afternoons off as their only time off. That was her only 'term'... that she'd have a tiny bit of time to herself. She didn't demand money, or anything like that. I think it just was supposed to show how undemanding and generous she was.

You want Nanny McPhee to work 24/7 with those monsters? She's not a blood relative, after all.

Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.

I think it was more to give the dad and the kids the chance to interact without her. She couldn't MAKE them happy by being around all the time, but by letting them find their own way with her help.

No idea she didn't expalin why all I know when he asked her requirements is that she takes Sunday afternoons off, and didn't give a reason so that would make me suspect that is her personal time off for her to do what she would like to.
