Did they or didn't they...?

Still remains one of the best comedies ever made! However a burning question for all who can participate:

It's the sequence on the beach the following day after they arrived; first some small talk, then they open up, then they both have that glare or glaze in their eyes.When John and Claire went to the beach did they have sex?

Of course no disrespect is intended by my question: my perception of the film was that later that night at the dinner table John is acting like an adolescent boy after his first experience (fiesty and rambunctious); whilst Claire at the same time is exchanging glances and an occasional smile with John. And that's when it happens...Sacks proposal to Claire on the hurried wedding. Someone please share your thoughts.
