Timing and How the cover was blown *Spoiler*

I found a bit strange how their cover was blown at the Cleery's place.

From one side Sack was in touch with the P.I. for finding them with minimum info (it was just the names as the company name was obviously invented on the spot by John at the table)
So apparently he gets the news on his mobile, which either way sounded as a longshot.

Then suddenly the granma shoots everybody as she finds out from the priest that... what? they are crashers? Jeremy didn't say that to the priest.
I thought she only found out that Jeremy and Gloria were having sex.

And these two revelations happened at the exact same instant?

Just a little loose timing of events I think

Good point. After rewatching this toda I was wondering if the priest actually did tell everyone Jeremy's confession, or just Sack found out from his buddies when he got the phone call, and the priest didn't even bother saying anything after all the craziness that was going on. Although I agree both sources didn't seem to realistically expose both of their true characters that quickly

reply

the priest didnt tell. Jeremy assumed it was the priest because he'd just effectively confessed. The priest looked shocked when he was blamed

in fact it was sack that found out from the PI, we're not sure how without even a real name lol

reply

I think it was both. I think the priest told the grandmother what Jeremy told him in confidence and that's why she was shooting at him. At that moment, Sack had already found out that they were frauds, so he brought it up.

reply

That makes more sense. All Sack's PI had to go on was their real first names and fake last names. As was shown, when they crash other weddings, they used completely fake names.

reply

The preist did tell the grandmother, you can tell by the look on the preist's face when Jeremy accused him, it was a sort of 'oh well, so what, I told!' - with a shrug of the shoulders. How Sack's source found them out with little or no information is anyone's guess.

It would be fairly easy to find out that Holy Shirt and Pants didn't exist and they weren't venture capitalists from New Hampshire. Knowing they were fake, the Big Sleazy could guess they were wedding crashers...

As much as I love the movie, that's about the only scene I thought was a bit weak. Which is unfortunate, because it's kind of a big part of the plot. Why was the grandma shooting? How did the PI find out they crash weddings? How did he know those weren't their real names? What did the priest tell, and to who?

You can kinda pick it all out and come to your own conclusions, but it's the kind of scene that shouldn't rely on that.

As for why the priest would say something, that makes sense. Jeremy pours him quite a drink...
