7 years later, it's still he best comedy in the last 20 years..

It just doesn't get old.

Agreed. Some might say The Hangover, but it has no rewatch value.

reply

I wouldn't go THAT far, but it's a great comedy. Hangover was really overrated (do we really need Hanvover 2 and 3?), it was funny, but overrated.

reply

I'll have to say Tropic Thunder is funnier overall, and is probably the best comedy of the decade.

The problem with Wedding Crashers is that it turns semi-serious halfway, getting preachy and uber-romantic. So it's not even pure comedy.

It will never get old. definitely the best of its kind for the whole decade.

I agree, the romantic bits of Wedding Crashers are the main letdown - it's sappy and feels out of place in what is otherwise a straight-up comedy. It's one of the funnier films from the last 20 years but it can't stand up to the best pure comedies or comedic dramas as an overall package because the romantic bits are just dead weight and hurt the replay value.

I'd also agree that Tropic Thunder is probably the best pure comedy in the last 20 years. It's a little uneven but still more consistent than most comedies, and it's also incredibly unique with one of the most genius comedic performances ever from RDJ. There are several others that I would put up there close to it though.

As for people saying Wes Anderson, Shaun of the Dead etc, I don't think you can really compare comedy/dramas to pure comedies.

20 years, so since '93? Um, not even close. There's something about Mary comes to mind and that might not even be.

I had no desire to watch this film since its cinema run, so its probably not the best comedy in 20 years.

Its that man again!!

reply

not the best comedy I've ever wathched, but it's up there with the best of them for sure. The lightheartedness coupled with some slapstick humour were blended perfectly into one enjyable piece here - gotta appreciate quality when you withness one
