No, he didnt care about any of that crap. It was all a rouse to get to Claire and marry the Senators daughter. Even though his family was rich and well known, he was bullisher like the rest. Thats why Senator Cleary said he went along with all his talks about it for his daughter, but even he could see it was just BS
