Did Claire really like Sack to begin with?

Did Claire really like Sack to begin with?

reply

I'm assuming at first she did, but it seemed like one of those relationships that after awhile you just feel stuck in. You don't really love the person anymore, but you don't know how to let go.

I would never have guessed that true romance and Detroit would ever go together.

I wondered that myself. What could a girl like Claire have possibly seen in a guy like Sack? But now I can see what she saw. Sack was obviously a charmer. He can be nice when he needs to be but he has that a'hole side to him that comes out often. People like him can be your best friend or your worst enemy, as long as you treat them how they want to be treated. But it took a guy like John to come around for Claire to wake up and realise she's better off with John. Trust me I know these people like Sack. I was best mates with a guy like Sack til I woke up and realised he is and will always be a total a'hole. I've ditched him now!

I had a girl-version of Sack in my life two years ago. I pulled a John and now I'm dating her ex. Ah, art truly does imitate reality... =)

There are plenty of girls like Claire with guys like Sack. That's how it works. Sack took the lead, laid down the law, and proved himself to be a dominant, powerful partner. Sure, he cheated, girls say that bothers them but it really turns them on. It shows that the men are high value, and desired by other women. Power. Sack and John were both cheaters, so there's really no difference between their moral behaviors.

I think with long relationships, the other individual just becomes a part of their reality, and as a result, the chain is not broken.

reply

How is John a cheater?

And if my boyfriend cheated on me, especially like that, he would not live to see the next day.

reply

Mushion,

Hello? John bounced from wedding to wedding looking for NSA hookups. He couldn't even remember girls' names! No way is that any better morality wise than Sack.

I honestly have thought this over and over, and in the end, they equal out to me, with John a little bit better. See usually I would think Sack is a better guy because I respect men who are very aggressive and confrontational and deal with things head on, like Sack. If it wasn't for them portraying John as a successful lawyer, I would assume he was a lazy pothead like Chazz.

reply

I don't deny that. But that's not exactly cheating. That's just really stupid and immature behaviour.

Sack did however cheat on Claire and he was a dick about it. I don't have anything against assertive people, but as aggressive as Sack was is equal to immediate dumping in my book.

reply

So basically you agree that John was as bad as Sack. No WAY can someone lead his lifestyle and just pretend to "settle down". Sack was at least footing the bills for Claire.

reply

I do agree, but I just don't think John's a cheater. Wasn't Jeremy the same as John, if not worse? And he settled down.

And Claire probably was perfectly capable of doing that on her own. I can't say this for sure, because I don't know what her job is.

reply

Jeremy was as bad but so was the psycho red-haired girl he married.

Like I said, if John wasn't portrayed as a lawyer in this film, he would have been BY FAR the worse of the two (Sack and John).

Sorry, thing's like that don't change overnight.

reply

Not saying they do, but I still think their situation is different. And also, there's a huge time gap in the film that you're overlooking where John was very depressed. Should say something about him I think.

Also, to correct you, they're not lawyers, but mediators. There's a vast difference.

reply

Yeah. I'm mostly playing Devil's Advocate. Sack would probably be hardcore suicidal after John stole her.

reply

Agreed. It was very sleazy, immature behavior, but how can it be cheating if he wasn't in any relationships?

I wondered what Claire could have seen this guy.

reply

No way is John and Sack one in the same. John isnt a cheater either. We never saw him in a relationship. He was willing to settle down and date Claire, he fell in love with her at first site. She was more than just a game. Plus he was done with Crashing Weddings, it was becoming old, and meaningless. He wanted to stop it all. So he saw Claire and said "there's a woman I can see spending my life with".

Sack was an immature, selfish, douche who most definitely cheated on Claire. John did let Claire know that he might have crashed weddings, and didnt disclose his true identity. He had random hookups, mostly during a 6 week period in one year. Its no different than any other one night stands. Or hooking up with someone you met at a down town club on a Friday night. Those women at the weddings were doing the same thing, hooking up but deep down knowing that there wouldnt be a real relationship.

reply

Did Claire ever find out that Sack cheated on her? I didn't think that she did. I just thought that his treating her like crap and being a douchebag in general is why she didn't want to marry him, and that she never even found out that he cheated on her.
