My suspension of belief is really really pushed in this

Two middle-aged looking men sneak into a wedding... okay, far-fetched, but it could happen.

Two middle-aged looking men hook up with young girls and the family don't seem to mind, inviting them to stay over and dress in their clothes and sleep in their beds. Sorry, what planet is this movie taking place?

If they were young like these two girls perhaps we could say "oh okay, they let kids be kids." But who lets guys 35+ into their home?

reply

Rich people from Maryland who do anything their daughters want.

reply

The girls in the movie are the same age as them. Owen Wilson's character was very charismatic and Christopher Walken's character felt a connection with him since he pretended to into his speech's and boating.

Gloria was the spoiled one of the family and ultimately just get what she's wants,s o it makes sense to me.

reply

Not the same age. The girls were in their 20s, while these two were late 30s.

reply

If you've seen any movie in the last century or so, the age difference isn't that bad. Gloria basically forced her father to let them come to the house. He needed to be convinced.

reply

She held her breath and stamped her feet like a 9 yr old little girl. Which isn't too far off from her age as far as I could see at the time.

Senator Cleary said no at first, and Gloria embarrassed her way into a yes. And the wife didnt seem to mind. And like the previous poster said, Senator Cleary and John bonded.

reply

Vince Vaughn - Born 1970
Isla Fisher - Born 1976
Six years difference

Owen Wilson - Born 1968
Rachel McAdams - Born 1978
Ten years difference

Jus' sayin'

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

Yeah but do you realise that it's not just an age gap, but age-group gaps?

Those two girls are still in the "20 something" category, with Isla looking early 20s. The other two had that "nearly 40" look.

And couples with big age differences break up when one stays in one group and the other all of a sudden is "middle aged." Seen it alot.

reply

The real birth year of the actor's proves nothing about the character's ages in the movie, so there's no point in bringing it up.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

Exactly. In a TV show I watch, there is an 8 year difference between two actresses playing mother and daughter. That doesn't mean that in the show, the mother had a kid at the age of 8.

You're right, it's a stupid movie that wasn't even funny.

After seeing this garbage, a friend and I tried sneaking into a wedding and were immediately asked to leave. Weddings have just enough seating and plates for invited guests.

Since its inception, Hollywood has tried to sell the idea that young women like to jump into bed with middle-aged men. Maybe the writers and producers are used to casting couch. If a guy as old as say, Daniel Craig, went into a cool nightclub and tried picking up girls, he would stand out and look foolish.

reply

On the other hand, if Daniel Craig went into a cool nightclub and tried to pick up girls, he'd have his pick of the litter.
