Does anyone know if arson is going to be a theme this season? I ask because I don't enjoy immolation and I really don't want to watch a season surrounding it. If it isn't the season's theme, I'm surprised (and honestly? a bit disappointed) Rob Morrow is coming back so soon. Would have liked a bit of distance between the episodes so I could enjoy his acting. Two arsonist episodes in a row is too much for me.

I was just thinking the same thing. I'll be upset if the entire season is about arson and I dont know if I'll be able to watch every episode just because ti will feels like the same episode over and over.
Its understandable Spike is strong and mysterious and sort of compact but well muscled -Xander
Did anyone catch that line Rob Morrow had about the "$64,000 question" and then he paused? I think that was a throw back to that movie he made where he investigated cheating on the "$64,000 Question" game show.
My touchy spot is home invasions. Because I've been a victim. So when the bad guy is stalking around outside I get creeped out, make sure all the door are locked, esp. on "Criminal Minds".
Otherwise burning alive and drowning are very real dying phobias for me and probably most people.
I think everyone has a trope on these shows that gets to them. That makes sense though. I'd be worried if a crime show didn't employ something remotely terrifying once in a while.

The whole arson thing creeps me. Rob Morrow made Leonard Brooks so devoid of soul - he did an excellent acting job in the story arc.
However, I think I'm seeing how they are moving towards a series finale. I think it was touch and go between Miami and NY to see which one would be canceled. We've all seen Mac having problems remembering certain words or names and also he was told by his doctor that although he might recover from the traumatic brain injury, there is a large probability that the aphasia would stay the same.
My guess is that the writers will build to Mac's leaving the unit or retiring. In this episode both Danny and Flack noticed his memory gaps, although he covered well.
I love this show and would hate to see it stop running, but it does seem to be losing momentum a bit, even in Season 8. And Sinise is a sought-after movie star, so he may have longer-term projects in mind. I have a feeling he may not want to sign on for a 10th season.

Yeah, I think you are right about Mac, I think he will have to retire at the end. Even though we didn't see Danny notice Mac like we saw Don but at least he went to see Jo about it.
There is no way he can continue being a detective if he forgets things but then there is no way this show is coming back for a 10th season.
I haven't gotten any indication that Gary doesn't want to do a 10th season but he wouldn't say it though.
