Vartan! Is this a first for CSI?

Law and Order was famous for using the same actor as different people. In tonight's episode, the actor that plays Det. Vartan from the original CSI is the father of a missing kid.

I don't recall a main actor ever doing this on any of the CSI franchises, but I never watched the Miami one.

I'm not sure about how to answer your the question asked about how shows reuse actors for the same show; and how they use a character (who was very important on the original CSI franchise) - like Vartan. L&O esp Special Victims Unit is VERY well known for "recycling" actors whether they played good or bad in earlier seasons in the past.. But I do have to comment on how much I love your signature btw; Raylan Givens aka Tim Olyphant ROCKS my world and so does the show Justified. So glad that I'm not the ONLY one who loves Raylan Given's one liners on the show.

I actually miss Vartan on CSI, he was always one of my faves on the show and loved Catherine/Vartan as a romantic couple; hoping we will see him on CSI as Vartan VERY soon.. also he's a very versatile actor and talented - so I'm just glad to see him on my screen again...

Keep rocking those Raylan Given one liners as your sig, bc there are so many more to add.. thanks again for your sig at the end of your post :)

Yeah, they often do that. The CSI franchise seems to use character actors in one episode per show, sometimes twice. If you notice a particularly good small-part player on one CSI show, chances are they will, or did, appear on the others. But you're right, prior to good old Vartann reappearing as the grieving father this week, the only other lead I can recall being recycled is Carmine. He played "Thumpy G" on an episode of CSI, a few years before landing the role of Danny Messer on CSI:NY. I guess he was unrecognizable enough as a spaced-out gearhead smarming all over Catherine that they could get away with it!
