There's really only one reason why NY was renewed and Miami was axed

I think the fact that NY is the younger show, it would've been cheaper to produce. I'm glad it was renewed, but I have to say that Miami should've been renewed cause the ratings were higher. But I also must point out another reason I think Miami was axed:

The fact that it aired on Sundays made it difficult because football games in the fall were pushing it back later so they could finish.

I prefer Mac Taylor and his team over Horatio Caine and his team however, so I was actually hoping NY would be renewed. Can't wait for next season!

I read on why NY was renewed over Miami came down to 1 reason...CBS is moving "The Mentalist" to Sunday Nights and Miami got the boot. CBS was going to keep only 1 of the 2 shows (ny/miami) and since The Mentalist was being moved to the Miami time slot, the decision was easy.

Mac: Seriously great.

Sunglasses dude: Seriously irritating.

No tragic loss.

Raylan Givens: You make me pull, and I'll put you down.

I only watched CSI Miami when I found out it was the spin off show for csi NY.
I only watched that epasode the whole way threw. The sun glasses were reallyirrating to myself as well.

You so got that completely wrong.... Vegas was first (2000), then Miami (2002), then NY (2004)

But I'm pretty sure that the poster meant that CSI Miami was the show that spun off CSI NY, since immediately after that he/she says that the only episode of CSI Miami that they watched was the one were CSI NY began. His/her wording is confusing Busybooks is right.

Even though CSI: Vegas did come first and spun-off CSI: Miami, CSI: NY was a direct spin-off of CSI: Miami, not CSI: Vegas. CSI: NY's backdoor pilot was the second to last episode in the second season of CSI: Miami, "MIA/NYC Nonstop".

In other words, CSI: NY is a spin-off of a spin-off, not a direct spin-off of the original show.

Just as NCIS: LA is a spin-off of a spin-off, not a direct spin-off of JAG. NCIS is a spin-off of JAG.

Actually the real reason that Miami was canceled is that they couldn't afford to keep buying hundreds of pairs of sunglasses for David Caruso. Each pair only lasted for one scene and then they wore out from being taken on and off so many times.

Also, it probably cost quite a bit of money to have every single shot of the show processed to look like a day-glo painting.

I'm pretty sure it was the cost per episode... cost more to produce and pay salary in Miami than NY... I'm assuming this is the last season of NY anyway as its only got an 18 ep schedule. Sadface.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see CSI submarine in another year or two. Reality shows are soooooo much cheaper than paying real actors and showing real drama.

It seems that cable is getting the best shows anymore. Broadcast tv may be heading for the old corral soon, don't you think?

I seriously doubt it's more expensive to film in Miami. NY is heavily unionized, taxed, and regulated, driving costs through the roof. Otherwise, Burn Notice would be importing palm trees and bikinis to Canada and filming there, as that show is filmed heavily on the cheap in the Miami area.

Miami was shot in Los Angeles, not Miami. Studios were in Manhattan Beach.
And yes, Miami spun off from Vegas. I have a good friend who
was on Vegas and moved to CSI Miami. Initial filming was done
in Miami; she was there for 6 weeks.
The show was canceled because of salary issues;
it's ratings were ok; not stellar but not bad enough
to dump it. Stupid because the other 2 shows have
survived by replacing main characters. Miami could
have done the same thing.

The two shows are mutually exclusive. It was not a decision between one or another.

I used to watch CSI:Miami but the show began to stink YEARS ago and Caine's character became ridiculous. CSI:Miami was cancelled because nobody wanted to watch it anymore. That is the one reason it was cancelled. It became an embarrassment to law enforcement.

CSI Miami was way over the class of CSI NYC, and Las Vegas
