Very unsatisfying ending.
After such a huge investment in character development. There should be a much better pay off. I wanted to see Lindsey and Danny move to Montana. Sid pass away. Mac get married. Adam get promoted.

shareI agree. And Flack dump Lovato. Wasn't a fan of that relationship.
shareI just watched it on TNT after recording it a while ago. It could have been better as you had mentioned, but with the group together along with Mac's voice-over and his proposal it was a lot better than many shows that ended with no conclusion at all.
Dean: I am wearing sunglasses at night. You know who does that? No-talent douche bags!
I agree with you to some extent...although the finale was decent enough for me, and I really liked the last scene with the whole team together on the roof, but I definitely think this show could've wrapped up better. The episode just does not feel much like a finale for the show to me...the case itself about the cop shooting an unarmed man could've very well had been a typical case of the week for the team. The only part of the episode that seemed even remotely like a send-off for the show was Mac's monologue in the end while scenes of the whole team together were playing on the screen.
It was a decent ending overall IMO, but not satisfying enough for me...seeing Lindsay & Danny moving to Montana would've been nice, I think Montana would be a great and more peaceful place for the couple to raise their children. I don't want Sid to die though, but it's nice to see Mac finding happiness again after mourning his wife Claire's death for so long. I also wanted Stella to return in the end...but I know that wasn't likely to happen, though I still wished to see her back in the end.
I just expected more especially considering it's the final send-off for the entire show...I think even season 8's finale seemed more like a send-off for the show.
I've watched this more in reruns than when it was originally on. I looked up the last seasons. Season 7 had 22 episodes, 8 had 18, and 9 had 17. This indicates to me it was planned to be canceled after 8, but somehow made it to 9 and then the ending was not well thought out- perhaps they thought they'd get 10 until the last minute?
Joe "We're authorized" Fontana: I can do this all day, Mitch. How about you?
I also didn't watch this show when it was airing, I watched all the seasons online only several weeks ago...but I did read that there were speculation at the time that season 8 was going to be the last because of its shorter season, that was probably due to the fact that ratings for season 7 dropped significantly after Melinda Kanakaredes left the show. She was a huge part of the show and her character was very popular with viewers so after she left that really was quite a significant blow to the show in terms of ratings afterwards...and fan reactions towards her replacement Jo have been rather mixed. I think CBS probably wasn't sure what to do with CSI:NY after season 7, so they played it "safe" with the last 2 seasons by cutting them shorter and made the finales for the last 2 like a send off in case the show doesn't get renewed. I think CBS cancelling CSI:Miami but renewed CSI:NY was a big shock to a lot of people at the time...there were alot of speculation as to why CBS made that choice, some think it was because CSI:NY was cheaper to make, and especially since season 9 only had 17 eps.
I definitely think CSI:NY had the potential to last for more seasons...even though I still prefer seasons 1-6, but I really enjoyed the last 3 seasons also and Jo eventually grew on me. I just think since the season 9 finale was the final ending for the entire show, I expected more, more closure for the viewers, but it just fell short...season 8 finale felt more of a proper send off and gave us viewers more closure...season 9 finale just seemed more like an ordinary episode of the week for the most part, except for the ending scene with the team gathered together, but that part was so short, it just felt really rushed to me how the send off ended. It sort of makes me wonder if CBS decided to cancel the show at the last minute, so they rushed the finale.
It was on the bubble season 8. Most thought it would have been cancelled. But they were renewed, barely. I thought they did an ok job. Sometimes people want everything tied up completely according to what they(the viewer) wants. It didn't end with anyone's life on the line.
shareif it were just a season finale then I would let it pass...but considering season 9 finale was suppose to be the series finale, the final ending for the entire show, you would think they would do a better job at giving the viewers more closure, and of course many viewers would expect everything to be tied up, considering the show won't be coming back. I would've been ok with that finale if it were just a season finale and the show gets renewed...but since it was the final send-off for the entire show, naturally expectations from many viewers for the series finale were much higher and to many it really fell short. Many viewers wanted more closure with the characters and wanted any unfinished subplots to be tied up and resolved, because really, that's the whole point of a series finale, to give the entire show a proper send-off and ending...but instead the finale seemed more like just an ordinary typical weekly episode to me. If we were to judge the finale as just a typical standalone episode or a season finale, then I think it is good...but as a series finale, it's mediocre.

CBS couldn't get this show off the air fast enough. They didn't care about the viewers. I think the producers at least wanted to get the show to the 200-episode mark, and CBS wouldn't even do that. They basically truncated the final 2 seasons, when they didn't have to. Just a total hack job by CBS. The show shouldn't have ever moved from it's Wednesday night slot.
