VACATION GETAWAY SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE SERIES FINALE

Considering the smoldering ruin this show was starting in Season 7, the plug should have been pulled at the end of Season 6. TODAY IS LIFE ranks as 1 of the weakest, most anemic series finales I have ever witnessed onscreen. VACATION GETAWAY as the series finale would have given the show the chance to walk out like Judd Nelson at the end of THE BREAKFAST CLUB with his hand held up in the air in triumph. Going out on Shane Casey would have insured the show going out on top. Back in July I bingewatched the Sela Ward seasons with the intention of never watching those DVD ever again. Both EXIT STRATEGY and NEAR DEATH reduced Mac to a weak little bitch. When he got thrown off that balcony in POINT OF VIEW, he was still kicking ass especially after spotting Peyton in Kevin Scott's apartment. Without Stella Mac was rudderless, no way could Jo Danville provide the balance he needed and what an affront, insult to Melina Kanakaredes for Seasons 7, 8 & 9 to try to rewrite history by depicting a stronger bond between Mac & Jo than there was between Mac & Stella. CAN YOU SAY BVLLSHYT? 0n the original CSI after Grissom retired and we saw how hostile Hodges was to Langston, that was far more honest because Grissom was Hodges' mentor and for Hodges, Langston was this intruder but overtime they developed a rapport, but it took a while. With Mac & Jo it was like they were Forrest Gump & Bubba-peas & carrots. VACATION GETAWAY kicks more ass and is far more compelling than EXIT STRATEGY, NEAR DEATH & TODAY IS LIFE combined.

I agree to a certain extent. Gary Sinese is one of my all-time favorite actors, but I have watched the last three seasons of CSI:NY at least twice (once when they originally aired on CBS and once after they went on Netflix) and I can't watch them again.
Part of the problem, I believe, is that Gary Sinese did not have the same chemistry with Sela Ward (whom I love as an actress) that he had with Melina Kanakaredes. However, I think the greater fault, to paraphrase Shakespeare, lies not in the acting (or even in the lack of chemistry) between the main leads, but in the writing. Until the seventh season the writing on the series was fantastic (in my opinion, on a par with any of the other crime shows on TV, including its sibling shows) particularly from the fourth to the sixth seasons. Unfortunately, after the sixth season, the budget of the series was cut and it was moved to a Saturday night berth. The budget cuts (I presume), many of the writers left the series and it began its descent in quality.
My wife and I are just now starting to watch CSI:NY again from the beginning. We have already agreed that the last episode we will watch is the first one with Sela Ward, mainly because it wraps up "Vacation Getaway's" cliffhanger ending.
