I almost shut it off 20 mins in...

Like most people, I thought "There's no way teenagers act like this in high school!" It felt more like a college atmosphere to me, at the very least.

But I decided to try and go past that and watch the movie till the end. And WOW I'm sure glad I did! The way all the puzzle pieces come together is pretty brilliant.

Anyone else get a similar feeling?

From my understanding they were all juniors/seniors, in which case they would only be 1 or 2 years from a college atmosphere as you put it.

I see a lot of people saying that high schools are nothing like this, but besides slang being different, I'm not exactly sure why. High school students do drugs *beep* man, I went to a top/elite high school and it was no secret that people smoked marijuana). There has been more than one case of high school students being murdered. The only thing that was really unbelievable to me was the jock Brad paying another student to stab Brendan. And maybe Brendan himself. But other than that...

Basically I don't disagree that it's overdramatized, but what high school movie isn't overdramatized? Were you ever part of a "breakfast club" in high school?

I was in the same boat.. I was looking for good noir movies and a bunch of people suggested this. Never heard of it, but looked it up... and the fact that it was about high schoolers almost made me dismiss it, but I saw JLH was in it so I gave it a go. As I was watching it really irked me at the begining, and it was almost borderline camp, but the good acting in it stopped it from ever crossing that line. In the end I kinda looked at it as a noir movie with a high school setting rather than a movie about something that actually happened/could happen (can't think of another way to put this)But its like, most movies I am like... Okay well IF transformers existed and came to our world... etc, I veiwed this as more of a story to be told with and the setting was just a part of it
