Did the character 'Kara' add anything to this movie?

* Some Spoilers *

I'm trying to remember if Kara moves the plot forward at all. The only actionable information I can remember Brendan getting from her was the party invitation he found that got him an audience with Laura. Other than that all three of his meetings with her seemed like they could have been cut without much impact to the plot.

It was implied that she let Dode know where to find Emily's body and that she (Kara) was the reason he refused to tell Pin what he knew without receiving substantial payment. But I think the movie would have had a tighter plot if Dode’s motivations were his own.

The film already had a major femme fatale pulling the strings of all the male puppets around her. Did it really need Kara’s three scenes just to add a second man eater?

Basically she was a past girlfriend of Brandon (Brendon) and she was also a drug dealer. Dode died mainly because she was using Dode, so she was important for why Dode died.

Kara acts as an intermediary between Dode and the Pin. It's also through her that Brendan finds out about Halloween in January where he meets Laura and first sees Tug.

She's also there as some back story to Brendan.

Agreed, she was definetely using him as her sex slave to speak, she references this several times in the movie.

She was a red herring. Because she is there, we are supposed to think someone else is a girl next door and not who she really is.
