You're all missing the plot! Yes, there IS a plot... (Spoilers)

Although this is a short movie and an obvious mile-stone of the art form this film also has a plot which is also often overlooked. Be warned however that spoilers follow.

Namely if you view the film carefully you will see that the man to the far right is holding an object in his hand and steps behind the woman. I believe he might be stabbing her! The young man walking across the frame is doubtless alarmed by this and at the last moment turns towards the the man and woman to stop him from further injuring her. The initially standing in the center of the frame is alarmed, probably by the scream of the woman being stabbed by the man.

So not only do we the first film ever made, but we also have the first murder-mystery ever filmed!

I suggest you all sit down with a few pieces of popcorn tonight and view this film again...

You have given us all a lot to think about. I hope this is further discussed in on of the documentaries in the upcoming 3-disc special edition DVD. (One of the discs contains a never-before-released director's cut version of the film!)

There is a plot- its a VEGETABLE plot. Its just off screen. You can see it in the widescreen version.

reply

I see where you're going. Due to the fact that the "stabbed" woman at the right of the screen died the very same month as this was filmed, we may indeed have a snuff here

EDIT:
I just watched the "traffic crossing the Leeds bridge" clip, and I believe that there might be a case of child-abuse in it! If you look in the right lower corner you see a man walking and holding hands with a child. He raises his free hand and smacks the child right on top of his head, so the poor kid's cheek is pushed against his chest. What sick man this Le Prince must have been!

Actually, the man looks as if he's tipping his hat. However, after filming, the horse was spooked by the man tipping his hat and trampled the child.

reply

Definitely tipping the hat.

3-Disc Special DVD Director's Cut... LMFAO!!

reply

Excellent to watch the full unspoilt film on the internet at last!

I didn't enjoy watching it on TV. Too many adverts interrupted the flow of the movie, and when they put the news bulletin in the middle, well that just ruined it!

Recently i heard that Le Prince is working on his new movie trilogy, based of course on Roundhay Garden scene. The titles of the movies in the trilogy will be:

Roundhay Garden Scene: Fellowship of the Garden
Roundhay Garden Scene: The two Gardens
Roundhay Garden Scene: Return of the Prince ( Le Prince that is )

No, the young man walking across the frame is an ACCOMPLICE in the murder, he steps in between the camera and the murderer/victim in order to obscure this heinous crime.

NO NO, you are both way off!

reply

What if the man who hit his kid his the same guy who killed the woman!?!

reply

Then the time-space continuum must by necessity come crashing down, turning all matter to anti-matter. And vice-versa.

reply

It's perfectly simple - Le Prince lined up his family and said "Hey, dicky old chums! I'm gonna put you all on a roll of paper!". He then asked his family to walk around in circles and started the camera. Then, shortly before the film ran out, he pulled out a dagger, stabbed his mother-in-law (who died shortly after) and said "Thankyou!".

Le Prince got what every married man is longing for, and he even preserved this joyous moment for posterity. What a man!

reply

There is no murder nor a stabbing. The guy walking in a circle is looking down, not at the other man. The movie is called Roundhouse, he is walking in a circular motion. The woman is clearly quite old, so her dying around this time is quite coincidental. Makes a good story though.

reply

No, no, there is a stabbing, it was just cut out during the extensive editing process.

reply

You all are seriously lame and have no life.

reply

Whats the name of that song in the SA video posted above?

reply

The man by the bridge was a child molester and the guy in the garden was obviously groping the prostitute.

reply

That'd have to be a REALLY old whore.
