In a world where Mad Men, Lost, and Breaking Bad exist, this show stinks

Before you jump down my throat, just let me say that I am watching the 4400 and will continue to do so until it's end.
That said, it is pretty bad. The writing is directed apparently at people who cannot put two and two together. Everything is spelled out for you in giant letters because, I'm guessing, the showrunners thought we were all stupid or something. Whatever the date was that the 4400 got canceled, that was the day subtly was invented.
The costume design is beyond bad as well. Whoever told the actors that lime green shirts were a good idea (there is one in ever ep. seriously) should never be allowed to work in TV again.
And that theme song??? come on with that garbage! it's so bad!!!

Great concept, poopy execution. Maybe a remake someday?

Technically, you're right, this series is full of flaws and major ones. But it's distracting (for me) and it changes from what we're used to watch, I mean the topic. So, I like the series but there's no comparison with the works you cited that are almost perfect. We can consider that the 4400 is a B-list series with a lot of imperfections, but for me it's highly watchable though, if you're not looking for something awesome. Sometimes you just need a little distraction and I find it with the 4400.
I am not doing well right now (I have RSD/CRPS)) and I just need to keep my mind busy without getting tired; I already watched all the great series because I have to rest in my room,a lot, and even on my bed some days when my pain is too much

I wouldn't watch mad men or breaking bad because I saw the trailers for both and they stunk. But you like stuff like that and I don't and it's just a difference of opinion. I like sci-fi and I liked The 4400. It wasn't the best but it kept you interested. There were some episodes I didn't like but all in all I enjoyed the series and hated to see it go. They just needed better writers in the end. As for the theme song, I loved it! The lyrics suited the concept of the show, time travel. The melody was ethereal. Every week I looked forward to hearing the song! How many people at 1 time or another ever wished that a relationship that didn't make it either by death or just breaking up, wished that somewhere in time that they would meet again? Most everybody has a bit of wishful thinking in them. :o)

song: "We'll find our place in time, our place in time beyond the sun. We'll find our place in time, a place in time to call our own."

It is a pity that we have to choose between a great concept and good execution. Man Men and Breaking Bad are not interesting to me due to their boring setting, but I heard people swear by their execution. And then we have 4400 with an awesome setting, but quite a few of the choices that characters make in it are unbelievable.

The 4400 is better than Lost, Mad Men and Breaking Bad put together!!!

It's a very boring show for 90% of the episodes. Slow, plodding, over explained and poorly paced, yes. However, your statement is like saying Jimi Hendrix sucks because he couldn't play like Joe Satriani (Satriani credits Hendrix for why he took up the guitar seriously).

Other shows did it better (Heroes) but they might not have existed without the influence and ideas from 4400. That's what I'm saying, and it pretty much goes for all the shows that we have that are so amazing now.

Except for Lost. That was a true original. Unless you're going to say it wouldn't have existed without Gillian's Island....a point I might have to concede under the circumstances! ;)

I see others have beat me to the punch but come on, none of those shows are like 4400. And personally if we're just talking about enjoyability I'd say only Breaking Bad wins. I gave up on Mad Men because it was boring and Lost started off with a bang and then collapsed under its own convoluted story and refusal to answer questions.

I'm currently rewatching 4400 and although it is far from perfect and has lots of flaws (mostly as a result of its troubled production), I am still finding it way more fulfilling than Mad Men or Lost or Downton Abbey or True Blood or those type of shows. But hey that's just me.

Don't try to cash in love, that check will always bounce.
