25 minutes through the first episode
Does this get any better? So far it seems terribly cheesy and badly acted.

shareNope. 37 minutes is enough. I don't understand the great reviews on here, the scene with the guy breaking the glass in his hand is the last straw for me. The dialogue is awful and the acting is just as bad.
shareSeason one is actually a five part mini series. It wraps up nicely so you can move on to something else if you don't like it that much.
shareIt becomes absolutely fantastic.
The first few episodes are just an intro, afterwards it becomes much more action-packed and incredibly interesting. Like nothing I've ever seen.
Season 1 ends quite well and answers quite a bit about the 4400, and Season 2 it starts getting very good, then the last episode of Season 2 is a masterpiece and when I saw it I knew this is gonna be a very special series. By then every day all I would think about was coming home and watching another episode.
Trust me, the first few episodes do not reflect on what is coming.
You might as well give up now then.. I doubt you have the patience to get to the good stuff. For me it took nearly half of first season before I knew this was a show that had me hooked.
You cant always expect that the pilot is amazing. The first episodes in such shows are often about character development while the more interesting plot points start later.
I really dont get why people today expect to be blown away by first episode.
If a show like star trek TNG or DS9 had premiered today then people would not have even given it a chance. DS9 for example took several seasons before it even reached it's potential and today would have never made it beyond first season at best.
I don't expect to be blown away by the first episode. It took me nearly a whole season to get into The Wire, I now think it's the best thing that ever happened to TV.
Although the wire was slow and took a long time to build up to anything, it was still very well written, and acted.
It didn't take long to notice that the 4400 was badly acted and badly written. It seemed cheesy and poor from the start.
If it seems cheesy and bad acted to you, do not watch anything in the future. It's underrated, but very well acted, check critics newbie
shareObviously, I think that the acting is bad, and it didn't take long to notice.
Sorry, I've never been able to take the opinions of critics as fact.
You like it, fair enough. Enjoy your show.

you should form your own opinions instead of the opinions of critics.
shareI've seen the first 2 seasons and a bit, and it is an absolutely horrible show and has some of the worst acting I have ever seen on television, of the 92 shows that I have watched, it is at a very low 78th on my list.
shareIt's terribly acted, you big dumb douche.
But besides the objectively awful acting, which anyone with sense can see is awful, it's also quite poorly directed. What's with the constant whimsical music, anyway? It doesn't fit the tone at all, it's like touching Lifetime music, not the sci-fi/mystery/dramatic stuff it's actually showing.
And why are they always filming day for night? It's very distracting. Isn't there any actual nighttime available?? Do the actors refuse to work at night or something? Can they not afford the lighting cost? XP

Whether they find life there or not, I think Jupiter should be considered an enemy planet.
While comparing any show to THE WIRE is just unfair, expecting a show on network television to be well acted and well written is bound to leave you disappointed 99% of the time. Its better to expect that any show on free tv will totally suck and be amazed and shocked when one doesn't.
shareBeing that most of my favored shows are not showing again for a while, I had to venture out and find others.
I would not say this show is epic, but I have enjoyed it enough so far (I am mid-season 2). :)

I watched the entire series and was extremely disappointed where they left-off. As they stated, the last episode was supposed to be a season finale...not a series finale which explains a lot. If they weren't going to renew for a 5th season, the last few episodes of the 4th season should have answered many questions and drawn a conclusion.
You have to be an idiot to be a fan of tv series, be it sci-fi, drama or otherwise, and determine it's worth after 30 minutes let alone at least a full season.
