Mother's Illness?
What was it, exactly?
shareShe was bipolar, she sounded like she had ups and downs
shareYes, she had Bipolar Disorder. She goes into much more detail in the book.
i dont understand tho, in the movie it didn't specify that. They just sed her mother took them to Lord and Taylor and she had fudge chocolate in the car.
shareIt's been a while but as I recall, they emphasize her mania (random trips to Lord & Taylor during the school day and chocolate at inapproproate times) and her depression.
-------
I haven't read the book so I don't know how much they talk about it, but when they're talking about the day they went to Lord and Taylor they give a few hints. One is they said their mom was up all night making fudge (in a manic episode it's very common to not sleep or sleep very little and still be full of energy) then she woke them up really early and thought she was gonna be able to sell her fudge at the mall (that's a sign of grandiose thinking which is also very common in mania). Also being impulsive is a sign, such as her buying the puppy for Maggie but not thinking of the consequences. Those things made me think it was bipolar after they had talked about her being depressed other times.
I hope that clarified it a little for you. It's a very interesting but heartbreaking mental illness.
From the movie I gathered she suffered with depression of some kind...
Is that when there's conkers?
