A shame this movie didn't get better reviews

I know there are some good ones, but a lot of critics panned it. I guess they only watch the movie once before writing their reviews. But there are so many layers to this movie and to the relationship between Rose and Maggie. I think Curtis Hanson got it just right.

I have to agree with you. I watched a couple of days ago on the FX netwrok and I'm watching it right now, lol. It kind of caught me off guard because I usually don't watch chick flicks (sorry I know that's a cliche, but I couldn't think of anything else).

Toni Collette is terrific in this and Diaz is really good too. Good movie overall!

It did actually get decent reviews, but it should've gotten better than what it did. But that's what happens when the overwhelming majority of reviewers are male. A mediocre film like The Dark Knight can get a 92% approval, but In Her Shoes flies under the radar.

I totally agree with you. I'd much rather watch "in her shoes' than the dark knight: . Generally i don't like movies about psycho clowns who blow up hospitals.

hahahahahahahahaha I thought this movie was ok, better than I expected, but the Dark Knight is much, MUCH better,

It definitely deservese a better reputation than it has. I was very pleasantly surprised. Maybe the PR could have been done better? I'm certainly no expert, but I know that the impression I had gotten was that it was a wacky, "Odd Couple" type movie. You know--slob sister moves in with uptight sister, annoys her by borrowing her shoes, and hilarity ensues. Of course, now that I've seen it I realize it's about much, MUCH more than that.

I thought it got quite good reviews. It was mainly criticized for lack of insight into some of the character´s lives, like Ella´s, and the change in the Cameron Diaz character was probably too dramatic to be believed.

I saw it on flight on my way to China and bought it, because I thought it was both interesting and fun. Not flawless, but a good movie about two sisters who share a love/hate relationship and the grandmother they never knew about. I felt the movie started getting a lot more interesting when Cameron Diaz goes to Florida, because then both she and her sister discover something new and start to build up more meaningful lives. A real "feel good movie".

I too think this is a gem that should've recieved better business and reviews. One glorious exception is that the male critic Owen Gleiberman from Entertainment Weekly put it on his Top 10 list at the end of the year, saying, "What if someone made a great chick flick and nobody came?" It's a shame he didn't write the original review when it was released; the assigment went to film critic Lisa Schwarzbaum, who found it mediocre and rated it a B-.

I think this is such a gem because Curtis Hanson, a director who believes films should be motivated by characters and not plot, is so in tune with his women and what how they act. I think too many people overlook this because it doesn't fit into Hanson's filmography of men in emotional crisis (LA Confidential, 8 Mile, Wonder Boys), but they're missing out on something speical. You can criticize the at times sit-com plot elements, but this has more depth than any episode of Friends, and Toni Collette and Cameron Diaz truly feel like sisters. There's this one scene (this is hazy because I haven't seen the film since it came out to theatres in 2005) where they're talking about the one great day when their mom took them out, and the way they intereact and their rapport is so genuine and fresh, it's like there's an umbilical cord between them. In the first five minutes of the film I actually found myself relating to the sisters, having an older one myself, and it's really rare that a film truly gets that right.

I was very surprised this movie didnt do better. It was really enjoyable and had great character transitions. Its definitely a million times better than the other crap they are making and labelling good.
