In every movie I have ever seen her in, Toni Collette has won me over because she always stands out on screen as an actress. She can play so many different roles. This is shown from playing Fiona Brewer in 'About a Boy' to Sheryl Hoover in 'Little Miss Sunshine.' Those two women are very different in their natures and they don't have the same accent. They also have a different style in regards to clothing/hair. I know that may not show a lot to you, but it does to me. I just love the diversity of her roles and her warmth on screen/in real life.
I just love her as Rose Feller in 'In Her Shoes.' I think she looks stunning in this movie. I am just thinking of two of the scenes in which she was awesome! But she was ace in all of them. Seriously. The first one was in the pub when Maggie takes her out after they have been looking at jobs on the computer. They come across two men who say: "How would you ladies like to join us for something wild?" This is after Maggie has been flirting with them. The look on Rose's face is priceless and I love how Collette acted that scene. Secondly, Maggie and Rose are in a cafe/diner place having a laugh. Rose starts to make jokes about her stepsister's (Marcia's) vagina and what her stepmother (Sydelle) would say about it: "My Marcia's has a vagina alright, but my Marcia's vagina is made of solid 24 carat gold." Then, Maggie pipes up (demonstrating Sydelle): "My Marcia's vagina is so perfect, it's in a museum." I love this scene! Then, the mood changes all of a sudden when Rose asks the waitress if there are any jobs available at the cafe/diner. Rose insists that Maggie works and she says to her: "I think you should work so you don't have to mooch off me for everything." Maggie is fuming and even more when Rose says that middle aged tramps (like Maggie may turn out to be, according to Rose) aren't cute, but they're pathetic. She is trying to say that Maggie knows how to get her way with men and they are forgotten about by the next day because she is so drunk when she wants to have a one night stand with them. Maggie storms off and Rose realises there has been a slip of the tongue on her part. Oops.
I could go on about how brilliant Collette is in this film. But if I did, we would be here all day.
"Is your mojo failing you already": Rose to Maggie.
I also love the fact that Collette plays the mature sister in this movie. She plays it so well :)
