This is the fifth attempt to make a US remake. I highly doubt it will work.

reply

Who knows? I guess we’ll have to wait and see

I’m pleased to read that this American version will keep the POV and voiceovers but have its own original characters and plot instead of just being a lazy beat for beat rip off of the original.

hope this Murican remake will be better than the Top Gear reboot. they replaced three funny british comedians with three annoying lame hipster ass bozos for that show and it was a disaster

reply

Three's Company was based on a British show, but that's the only American remake of a British show that I can think of that was successful.

I guess they keep hoping to catch lightning in a bottle once again. I'm not optimistic, though.

And The Office

reply

Oh, yeah. How could I forget that one. Still, the track record isn't that great.

reply

Can't disagree with you there lol

reply

I'm making my way through the American Office for the first time atm. They did a good job.

reply

Cool, what season you up to?

reply

Season 3. Just had The Wedding (hilarious!).

reply

Oh yeah, that was a good episode

reply

Sandford and Son was a remake of the British show Steptoe & Son.

reply

I didn't know that. I'll have to check it out.

reply

It's old but enjoyable, YMMV though as it's a product of it's time.

reply

"Shameless" is another one the US ripped off from the UK.

reply

Yeah, there's a few that were based on British shows. I didn't think long enough about that before posting.

reply

I like the original enough to not be interested in a remake.

reply

Even if it's not a direct remake of the original?

From what I've read the characters and plot will be quite different to the original and feature two female leads who work together.

reply

It could work, I loved Peep Show. I loved the British The Office and thought the American version of the Office was going to be poor but I actually like it better!

reply

Probably not. If I randomly see an episode and like it, maybe. I'm not sure how that would happen as I stopped streaming services for TV and movies and I have no network service in my home. But would I be excited and seek it out? Probably not.

I'll just stick to the DVDs at the library, Cheapo Disk, and hit the theater every few months.
