Therapist was a racist witch

Her attitude was "this old white girl is not good enough for my young Jewish boy". Disgusting racist.

I believe that you made a bit of a strong and inaccurate accusation here. It was an overprotective mother watching for her young son and trying to protect him from a cougar, that's all. You have to admit that the relationship was a mis-match from the beginning, and Brian accuses his mom of trying to control his life several times in the movie. I believe that's why he was living with his grandparents. There was no indication that she felt that Rafi was an old white girl that was not good enough for her young Jewish boy. She was against her son, or anyone for that matter to date outside of their faith, which was supported by her statement to that effect. Nothing wrong with that, in fact it does cause problems as the relationship develops. Mostly with family, or one of the lovers being a little more into their faith than the other but that is not the case here.

It has nothing to do with their faith. They weren't religious people. She simply didn't want her son marrying into what she saw as an inferior race, and dragging down the family's Jewish gene pool. It's a story as old as history. Plus she didn't think an old chick was good enough.

She never says that she didn't want her son marrying into an inferior race, or even gave an indication that she felt that way. She did say that she said it would be better if people dated or married someone of their own faith to make things easier.

And she had no problems with the age difference until she found out it was her son that was involved. Again nothing was said that indicated that her age made her not good enough.

You are reading too much into it or putting your own ideals into the scenario. But that's ok though. There's no test later.

Well, that's ridiculous.

The point is that you can be perfectly reasonable and level-headed about ideas or situations in the abstract, but objectivity flies out the window when the same thing suddenly impacts you personally.

reply

Oh yeah, OP? You bring someone that is out of your faith AND someone your parents despise, THEN post this thought again....
