Kinda homophobic
Just a tiny Little bit, I don't want to make a big deals about it but the few gay men in the movie are viewed as morons, in fact, however superficially they are presented, they are schmucks. What's more, the kid, Brian or whatever his name is, does nothing but talk smack about them every single they're on screen. And now, as I'm watching the audio commentary I realized, what was very obvious, it's the director and screenwriter Ben Younger whose views are reflected on the screen. The time when they go to the beach house with all the gays and their dogs, the guy walks out to welcome them, director's comment? "I'm pretty sure he plays a gay guy"
Any comments? I was very uncomfortable while watching the movie that the protagonist had nothing but attacks on gay guys, which there are a few in the movie. This made me realize how self promoting the director actually is, it is one thing to put your views into a story but this guy is just putting them all there, regardless of whether they aid the story or are interesting or not. I really love this movie, I think is pretty good and I love the story and the acting but this made me realize that the director might just be too invested in presenting himself through it, more than the story.
