COMPLETELY AGREE!
I am a first generation American citizen. My parents came here from South America (mom), and Puerto Rico (dad).
They had very little education, but a ton of self-worth and strangth and dedication. They worked for every bit they got.
They never graduated high school... GEDs and working at factories...
Why I bring this up here:
I always hated Meryl. You can say I was like Jerry Seinfeld... "...she's a great big pnony!"
I once saw Kramer Vs Kramer and since then, hated Meryl's guts!!!
Never did I realize her talent and ability is what made me hate her... she played her character so well... but I digress.
I see this film reluctantly on the recommendation of a friend... date-movie sort of thing...
And I immediately withdraw... Streep... but then I thought, here's Uma... and New York City as a back-drop... "I'm in!"
And then the film ends, and I adore Meryl. Why?! Becuase f her immense talent and respect for her craft!
She plays (in this) a highly educated and mature and professional psychiatrist. She also plays an irrational and ethnic MOTHER... she reimnded me so much of the way my mother behaved during similar circumstances. When I went through those experiences with my motehr, I always chalked it up to her inability to comprehend "new world" concepts, or ideas.
Meryl plays a crazy mother who loves her kid too! And although she has all this education and preparation, she reverts to protective, ethnic mom when it conserns her child...
I thought it showed great depth. And I love Meryl now...
Just wanted to share.
