If you go back to Season 1, episode 1, there were so many things Michael Scott said to his employees, that while really funny in 2005 when everyone still had a sense of humor, would be sorely cancelled and raked over the coals citing how sexist and misogynistic it is in 2024 and it's true
shareIt was sexist back then, too (and racist, homophobic, etc.), but -- as you say -- we were still allowed to have a sense of humor back then. And Michael (like David Brent in The [original British] Office) was funny because he thought he was so with it, but was actually missing the point by a mile.
Speaking as a sample of one, it's still funny if you choose to take it that way. The big "however" is that the networks wouldn't air it now.
It was intended to be racist, sexist, homophobic, etc., to show, in a very humorous way, what a tool Michael (or David in the original) was. But you're right, it probably wouldn't be made today, and I'm not even aware of episodes being rerun on any channels I get.
