Train Scene - couldn't they have escaped?

**Possible spoilers**
When the brothers were waving goodbye to their mom, it seemed as if no guard was holding them back. If they really wanted to, while the train was slowly moving, couldn't they have jumped out? Surely the trains won't stop just for them 2, they might have the "meh, it's just 2 people, continue on" type deal. I understand there were a few soldiers guarding the platform and whatnot...

I think I would've jumped.

reply

the soldiers in the train could shoot them for escape... its like the us army if you get drafted and tried to escape you then will be in prison for life or get executed...

reply

Do you think they really would have shot him though?
I mean in Jin Tae (sp) was punching them and stuff, they only pistol (err rifle) whipped him, and he punched a lot of faces.

I live in Canada so I'm not too knowledgeable on how it works, but I don't think you get executed in the US army =\

reply

No I think you're right . They could have easily jumped from the train and escaped. That way we would have no film.

reply

Exactly!

Oh wait...

This was the freaking Korean war..when the NORTH INVADED the SOUTH so you either fight or you die and yes the soldiers would of shot them had they escaped. They won't shoot Jin Tae for hitting a soldier because they need everyone they can get on the front line. This war was a civil war it's not your backyard tv war of shock and awe like now-a-days. The Vietnam war and the Korean war are very similar don't think it's like how you see it today. It was either fight or die and to many asian cultures to desert your country is dishonorable by death.

reply

If there were no repercussions, wouldn't you think everyone would be jumping off? They prolly woulda gotten shot if they hopped off, otherwise a whole domino effect wuolda happened.

Do not speak- unless it improves on silence.
