ROK Army too well equipped in '50-51

I love this movie, but one gripe I do have with it is the level of US equipment available to South Korean Forces at the start of the war.

In the movie, every soldier had an M-1 Garand rifle and seemingly a full set of equipment. I’ve had the privilege of speaking with a few Korean veterans, and in those years all kinds of personal equipment was in short supply. A shortage of boots meant that many soldiers wore canvas shoes. As late as the Inchon landing, Korean soldiers were still using obsolete Japanese Arisaka bolt-action rifles left over from the occupation.

I think the movie would have provided more insight if we had seen the ROK soldiers as poorly equipped at the start, not simply under-fed when cut off from supply.

Many of them were in fact Imperial Army veterans.

To the point some mimicked the "Sherman Carpet" thing and attempted to suicide bomb the seemingly unstoppable T-34s (which always made me thought that if the Soviets sent there JS-3s, ho would they fight THESE things?).
