Question: What was it about the brothers' mom that made it impossible for her to talk? Any ideas? I heard that she had some illness that affected her speaking abilities.

Her husband's death affected her too much, the younger brother mentions it on a scene.

She broke her back? Damage to the nerves.

i thought one of the brothers said something about a terrible fever! i think thats what it was. and she lost her speach.
