It's obvious that the filmmakers have never been in an actual fight. Do they actually think a human being can get railed on for five minutes and still be able to stand up? That scene where the younger brother gets in the ditch to fight the POW, both those guys must have taken 15-20 hard punches.
hey i've seen someone get his ass beat by six guys for about ten minutes. and he was still able to get on his feet, some people have high threshhold for pain(hey when i was a kid i fell four stories out of a window and was not only awake i was still able to stand)you gotta remember that the human body is an amazing thing and each individual is capable of doing amazing things, like get your as beat like homeboy in the movie did and still get up.
Douglas has it right. Some people will coil up into a ball in pain after one little hit, others will take tens of punches, hard, and keep going. Just watch UFC or a boxing match for example. Often times in UFC fights one guy gets pinned down and takes punch after punch and elbow after elbow but keep on fighting.
Well, others have mentioned endurance already (the ability to keep going despite taking a ton of hits), but I'd also like to add that during most of the scenes where hand to hand fighting is occurring, they probably have a ton of adrenaline flowing through them (fight or flight response), and it really does feel like it's giving you superhuman strength when it's really flowing through you (such as when you're being chased by an angry dog, or when you're in a fight for your life like in the movie).
adrenaline's not a good enough excuse. one of them should've been knocked out at least 20 punches beforehand. no amount of adrenaline is gonna stop the effect of your brain being pushed around in your skull. doesnt matter how much pain you can take. the fistfights became slighly comical and over-the-top in my eyes. they were throwing and LANDING CLEAN FULL POWER PUNCHES (i.e. getting their entire bodyweight behind the punch) TO THE JAW REPEATEDLY, and it just ended up looking a bit silly.
someone earlier on in this thread mentioned the ufc. whilst i am not a fan of ufc or mma, i did see the kimbo slice fight, where he got knocked out by that cross-dressing karate chump. in one of kimbo's earlier bareknuckle fights, he's just sticking his chin out and taking punches left and right, from a dude much bigger than that karate bloke, because he's not being hit right on the button. the karate guy, however landed one scared little punch on the button, and kimbo was gone. no matter how tough you are, anyone can be knocked out, or at least majorly concussed.
