Tommys grandpa

What did he mean when he told Zeberdee "You don't even know where you're *beep* born" on the bus?

reply

I think he meant a real Englishman wouldn't be racist.

reply

"You don't even know you were born" is a fairly common term in the UK. It's used to criticise or 'show-up' ignorance. I'd say in Tommys' Grandad case he's
criticising (or 'having a go') at Zeb and his mates' ignorant aggression towards the two foreign looking chaps. His statement about fighting fascists
shows clearly his anti-racist beliefs.

p.s. so it's not "...know where you were born" just "...know you were born"

reply

zeb and raff acted like theyd never met him, but surely theyd have seen him in the pub?

reply

thats what i thought, surely they would have seen him about with Tommy, i just cant accept that it would have never got back to Tommy what they done to his grandad.

"I never had any friends again like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anybody?"

reply

Tommys grandpa probably didn't bother telling Tommy, he wasn't exactly approving of needless violence and it would just lead to an incident if Tommy felt it was Zeberdee and Raff's fault he had a heart attack!
