Yes I agree, I can understand Sandra Bullock wanting to have a movie without the romantic angle since so many of hers are. But yeah, save it for a different movie.
Of course, there doesn't have to be a love interest in every movie, but people like to be in relationships which is why we like movies with a love story side, even if it is not the main point of the story.
But I really hate when sequels in particular UNDO the love story that happened in the first. Why? I loved the Gracie and Eric part of the story. More than two people hooking up, it was part of their character development. Each of them grew a little from the start to the end, and that growth is part of what nudges them to shift their friendship to something more. Because we started with them being friends, if somewhat antagonistic to each other, but still friends underneath, it was not as artificial as lots of movie romances are.
So why undo what the first movie did? I know in part, they say people get bored AFTER a couple has gotten together in movies or TV, the anticipation is half the interest. I get that, but why break them up? Why not, as someone else said, have Bratt's character be away on some big assignment to explain why he wouldn't be in the movie?
Fail, Miss Congeniality 2, fail.
