When Steve was stabbed in the neck, the rest of the guys who took him there were freaking out, but considering their lifestyle choice, why be so dramatic. They didn't think things were going to come too this?

I just found that strange. Let's punch on, but freak out when someone is about too die.

A black eye and a few scrapes are a bit different to someone potentially dying and I think it's also because of the circumstances.. He was retired and they respected him

The ending of the film 'The Firm' answers this.
