Who should have played Bandini..

Well, at least in my opinion..James Franco. I'm sorry , it's just that to me , Farrell and Hayek seem so miscast for the roles. Any thoughts?

Paul Giamatti

You are so right James Franco would have been perfect. He would perfectly portray the sensitivity and ambition. But then Selma would have to be replaced because I dont see her and Franco having any chemistry...hmm I know! The gorgeous Emmanuelle Chriqui.

David Spade.

John Turturro

No one else

;) Colin was perfect in that role

reply

Totally agree!Colin was excellent as Bandini.....why look for someone else???

reply

Because it got rated 5,8? And Bandini can never be played by a succesfull Hollywood actor. That's a contradictio in terminis, and when you've read the book, you die laughing, imagining Farrell as the complexed Arturro.

Colin is an actor, and I'm not saying this because i'm his fan ;)

he and salma both did excellent jobs. Saying he's "nothing like bandini" is silly because, he's an actor and being and actor is being a chameleon. Having something in common with your character is not important. And in regards to looks robert towne said that colin could pass for italian and imo he could. I don't think Bandini was supposed to be sicilian, so i don't see the issue. If we want to get analitical(sp) Salma was much too old for the part.

robert towne also said he was worried about farrell being as good looking as he is for the role.It was a legitimate worry. there is no way bandini is as handsome as that. butI thought farrell was excellent despite that. Id go for jason alexander.someone with obvious problems.

having said that towne himself ruined the movie.it was fantastic till salma hayek came on screen.SHE WAS AWFUL.she is a sexy mexican woman but she did zero acting in the movie.

also by changing the book so they get together at the end towne let down fante and his small army of fans. big time. the second half of the film where he left the book was so dissapointing and mainstream.

why couldn't Bandini be Sicilian?

<<why couldn't Bandini be Sicilian?>>

Because the person who said that said that, is a twit.

reply

Colin Farrell did just fine as Bandini.

reply

Yes! Exactly who I had in mind. A perfect Bandini.

reply

Nicholas Cage. Even though he's been pretty busy. Just my 2 cents.

reply

lmao david spade... hopefully he'd still have a bowl cut like in Benchwarmers. That slayed me

reply

Even thou they said J. Depp was to old for the part. I think he still would've done a better job as Bandini. I think bother roles were cast wrong for this film.

reply

Anyone but Colin...

reply

I pretty much agree with that. Johnny Depp 10 years ago would have been perfect. Even Di Caprio or Vincent Gallo would be better than Farrell, although he did try his best.

Farrell was only 28 when he filmed this role. He is the perfect age. Hayek is too old being 40 but she doesn't quite look it yet.

Michael Madsen, or Robert Mitchum

you want a 75 year old guy playing that part? sure hope that was a joke.

Jeff Markey

I think someone with gut and a rough face should have played Bandini. Though I haven't seen this film - I am sure Farrell is great in it.

Farrell was acceptable in terms of performance; did the best he could when considering the large racism drum that is constantly pounded all during the narrative; as if you're making one's an innate race as being part of their identity, something that must be respected in order for that person to be who they are meant to be, and something that can't be faked, casting an Irishman to play an Italian completely debunks what you're saying! It's insane! Laughable dilettantism!

If they'd made it at the right time, the young Al Pacino.
