Every time someone does a crappy remake the original gets pushed aside

I can't watch the original Pink Panthers with Peter Sellers on TV anymore. Every time I see the listing it's this God awful sack of lark's vomit Steve Martin version. BAD REMAKES ARE NOT A VICTIMLESS CRIME! I wish someone would take Steve Martin's movie The Jerk and make a terrible remake of it just to teach him a lesson what it does to people.

I just couldn't laugh. Maybe my expectations were too high. The Pink Panthers with Peter Sellers have me in tears laughing. When watching this I was mostly like :|

I saw the remake in the theaters. It was okay, but I really don't remember it. The original was a pleasant surprise. I caught most of it on TCM a couple of weeks ago. As soon as I could, I tracked down a copy of it. I've seen it three times in two weeks!

I don't see anything wrong with remaking this movie every so often. It's a story which can be told for any generation, with their popular actors.

What do you mean by "teach him a lesson what it does to people"? If you want to watch the original, why not just buy it? I prefer the original to the remake (and I saw the remake first, by the way), but I don't expect TV stations to change their schedule just for me. I just got the DVD and I can watch it any time I want to.
