Ben Wade = Evil version of Shane?

I saw Yuma again recently, and seeing it after seeing the classic western Shane, the parallels in the story seem blindingly obvious.

It's amazing to see how the characters go through exactly the same things, but do the exact opposite of each other.

I'm only referring to the re-make of Yuma; haven't seen the original.

I would say Ben Wade is the person before Shane.

Shane shows up already a hero having given up his past and trying to do right with a new life. Shane in the film struggles between running away from his evil past and doing what is right. By the end of the film Shane stops running and does what is right.

Ben throughout most of 3:10 to Yuma is a villain and is just out to kill his enemies so he can be free. Ben in the film struggles between running away from his good past and doing what is wrong. By the end of the film Ben embraces his good past to become a hero.

I don't think we saw the same two movies. I can't count how many times I've seen "Shane" and I don't think they go through the same things at all. I mean both being westerns there are a few similarities, but I don't see anything exact.
