So, is Wiiliam actually Ben's kid??

Ben was acting leading question to Dan's wife, about green eyes and San Francisco. She looked very concealing when talking to him.
If seemed obvious Ben remembered her.
Also, Williams seems to much more the bravado of Ben, than the passiveness of Dan.

He was a charmer. look at how Wade was with the saloon owner.

The son just flat out thought his father was a coward, and a failure.

Sorry -- based on Elmore Leonard's short story, from which the film is adapted, I'd have to say your suggestion is utter nonsense.
