kimberly reminds me of SMG in cruel intentions

Yeah, I can see that. But I think you view the characters differently because Cruel Intentions focuses a lot on Sebastian and his bad-to-good journy, so Kathryn is just the villian character, whereas in PP the story focus on Kimberly, so she comes across as much less 2-d. That's what I thought anyway =).
