All for a boy......a different perspective

There are many comments here from people who don't like that Kimberly orchestrated the whole thing just for a boy. The way I see it, whilst he might have been the primary cause of it, he didn't really have anything to do with the actual plan.
Kimberly's always used to being in control of her peers (and ever teachers) and this is quite possibly the one time when she wasn't (she couldn't tell Brittany the truth about who dumped whom), and not only was the situation out of her control, Troy then went onto Brittany which caused Kimberly to lose another element of control in her life. I think she really did want to ruin Brittany, not to get back about 'stealing' her boyfriend, but to remind her (or even both of them) of who was in control in their friendship, and to teach Brittany a lesson for thinking she could have something of her own.
Any thoughts?

Also.....There are several comments saying how there are no innocent people in the movie (which is part of its point I think). Does anyone else think both Randa and Brittany could be innocents in this but the differences between them are purely cultural and that's the reason for their different behaviours both before and after the incident. Each of them has rather innocent motivations at the start, each just wants to be friends and shows genuine remorse at what they've done. They are just 15 year old girls being manipulated and it's quite interesting seeing two completely different people's takes on it. I actually didn't think the "we are all sinners" was heavy handed because Randa came from such a different place than us as the audience. What does anyone think about the Randa/Brittany cultural idea...plausible? Reaching?

We're all sinners, of course there's forgiveness so she's got the wrong message. Though I don't see where this 'no innocents' message comes from, the teacher was innocent.

reply

I don't think the teacher was innocent; putting all that pressure on Brittany when she was on stage and clearly uncomfortable was really wrong.

reply

He should have made her stop up on stage.

Whilst he was innocent of the crime he was accused of, keeping Kimberly's letter and having his wife/girlfriend (can't remember) act it out was hardly innocent. Also from the comment the headteacher gave him about being careful we can see he's exhibited some slightly questionable behaviour before.

reply

The teacher was not "innocent" because he WAS a complete jerk to Randa.

reply

I think you can see the Teacher wasnt innocent when his wife left him. Kimberly read the letter in the class, and im sure his wife remembered that letter he had her read to her when he bought her the present.

I think one reason that the manipulative plot was over a guy was to show that Kimberly is still after all a 15 year old girl. She may be ridiculously smart, seductive, and almost perfect (despite she's sort of evil), but she still is 15 and acts on her petty emotions like being jealous over a guy. It shows that she is still so immature even though she is mature enough to read people and figure them out so cleverly.

Render unto Caeser, I say. I'm searching for hearts and souls.
